Engineer Christopher Terpstra, an industrial design graduate, designed the futuristic Blue Steel electric bicycle. The machine has features such as spokeless wheels, full suspension and a single-sided front fork. It’s hard to believe, but the enthusiast used a 1970s Schwinn women’s touring bike as a base, bought for only $10.
Christopher did a lot of work and had to replace many of the bike’s components. In addition, some parts of the tubular steel frame were made by him personally from one-inch steel tubing. The wheels are spokeless, where the rim is held in place by three nylon rollers. Nylon rollers are also used in the spring friction drive mechanism.
